GOING NUTS ABOUT ACORNS Introduction: Environmental Science Activity Module Prepared by the Students of The School of Environmental Science at Loch Raven Academy. Grant D. Soukup, Coordinator.
Seed and Acorn Collection Activities The state tree nursery needs seeds and acorns for planting each year in order to supply the growing quantity of seedlings that will be in demand. Trees are an essential part of our wetland buffers. There are many wonderful educational connections that can be made while collecting seeds and acorns each fall. This activity module contains ideas and supportive information and lesson plans to help teachers participate in an exciting environmental effort! Loch Raven Academy is an environmental science magnet school located in Baltimore County, Maryland. As a typical school, we are always searching for new ways to actively involve kids in relevant, real, and meaningful environmental projects. Acorn collection was an exciting way to apply real environmental science lessons combined with required service learning credits while learning and practicing real science. Included in this packet are some suggestions and information to help you participate in a real environmental science activity that is fun, educational, and important. Modify or improvise as needed. See attached references in this packet for more information about storage, etc. This page was last updated 03/20/01 |
