Continuing Professional Development Courses - 2003

 

School Site Environmental Education-MSDE /CPD #: 01-03-17R

School Site Environmental Education is a two credit Professional Development Course sponsored by the Maryland DNR Forest Service, the Maryland Association of Forest Conservancy District Boards and the local school systems. Instructional assistance in the course has also been provided by the Wildlife and Heritage Division, Conservation Education and the State Forest and Park Service. During the 30 hour workshop, participants are introduced to DNR sponsored environmental education curricula: Project Learning Tree, Project Wild, and Project WET. Content of the course includes linking MSPAP with the environmental education curricula for hands on activities and assessment, an overview of resources available to teachers through the Department of Natural Resources, and a field exercise. Resource materials provided.

Open to teachers grades K-12 of public and private schools, the course is free.

Focus on Trees and Forests-MSDE #: 98-03-26

Focus on Trees and Forests is a two credit Continuing Professional Development course which has the option for three credits at the graduate level. The course is sponsored by the Maryland DNR Forest Service, the Baltimore County Forest Conservancy District Board and the Baltimore County Public Schools Office of Science. Instruction assistance is provided by the Maryland Geologic Survey and the Wildlife and Heritage Division. In this 30 hour course, participants explore the forest ecosystem within an historical context of the forests of Maryland and a technical context by examining soils, forest structure, tree and plant physiology and tree identification, the forest as habitat for wildlife, the management of the forest, and learn to use the tools of the forester. A field tour is conducted on the final day of class.
