School Site Based Environmental Education

Special Notes:         School Site Based Environmental Education is sponsored by the Maryland DNR Forest Service, the Baltimore County Forest Conservancy District Board and the Baltimore County Public Schools Office of Science. Participants will be introduced to three environmental education guides: Project Learning Tree, Project WILD and Project WET (Water Education for Teachers). Content of the course includes linking the environmental education guides with the Essential Curriculum for hands on activities and assessment; an overview of resources available to teachers through the Department of Natural Resources; and a field tour on the final day. Participants will receive curriculum materials.

Course Objectives:

· Participants will gain an understanding of the educational resources available through the Department of Natural Resources and the Baltimore County Forest Conservancy District Board

· Participants will study the environmental education curricula Project Learning Tree, Project WILD, and Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) and will determine curriculum connections between the curricula and the Essential Curriculum

· Participants will be introduced to the local school reforestation program "Schoolyard Reforestation Wildlife Habitat Project"

· Participants will have the opportunity to visit a local sawmill and schoolyard habitats
