Black Tupelo (Black Gum) -- Nyssa sylvatica

Bark: Gray or dark brown, furrowed into rectangular or irregular ridges.
Flowers: Greenish at the end of long stalks, at the base of new leaves.
Fruit: Berrylike, elliptical, dark blue to black, maturing in autumn.
Leaves: Leaves are alternate, roughly oval with short blunt points, smooth margined. 
Tree Size: Height: Attaining 100 feet , Width: 2 - 3 feet.
