General Description

Administered by Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) – Wildlife and Heritage Division, this program provides specialized no-till planting drills and limited amounts of free native grass/meadow seed to landowners. The goal is to create, and maintain wildlife habitat in the high-production agricultural landscape by planting field borders to permanent cover. This provides water quality benefits through buffer establishment and creates wildlife habitat along field edges, which maximizes benefits with minimal land removed from agricultural production.

Funding & Assistance Availability

Limited quantities of seed are available to cooperating landowners on a first come/first served basis. Native grass no-till drills are located in all regions of the State for use by landowners establishing native grass meadows. DNR can provide technical assistance on all aspects of wildlife habitat enhancement and management and can combine various funding to implement the habitat recommendations.
