General Description

Sponsored by the Maryland Community Forest Council of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, this is a community-based public land planting program. A community or neighborhood association can order Tree-Mendous containerized or balled and burlapped trees and shrubs for planting on public open space. Most of the trees are native to Maryland and can be planted for beautification, as well as, to enhance wildlife habitat. This program is not available for private properties. All trees must be planted on commonly held areas such as parks, schools, community open space, and road easements.

Funding & Assistance Availability

The cost per tree is $25. Communities are offered the opportunity to become a Maryland PLANT Community (People Loving and Nurturing Trees). Communities can work with urban forestry personnel to achieve recognition for tree planting and care activities. Tree planting workshops are also available to communities interested in the program. There is open enrollment for this program.
