WANTED: WALNUTS !
Do you have one or more black walnut trees in your yard, and don't know what to do with all the walnuts that drop each Fall? The Baltimore City and Baltimore County Forestry Boards and Maryland DNR - Forest Service are looking for walnuts. The walnuts will be sown in nursery beds at the state nursery and grown to seedling size for a year. Thousands of black walnut seedlings are grown and planted state wide every year. Many of the black walnut seedlings will be planted along streams as part of Maryland's Stream ReLeaf buffer planting program, and will help improve water quality in the Chesapeake Bay. If you have walnuts that you would like to give to the state nursery, please call 410-665-5820, and leave a message for Chris. The walnuts should be in some type of container (paper or plastic bag or box). You should have at least the equivalent of one bushel basket of walnuts, or six full paper grocery bags.
