FIELD TRIP EXPERIENCES

The Trust will only fund 50% of field trip costs.  Matching support may come from your students, the school or the community.  Tell us how your field trip plans relate to what you are doing in the classroom.  If you plan to take your class on a Bay workboat trip, what type of activities will you do in the classroom before and after the trip that will enhance the value of the trip for your students.  We strongly encourage service projects as part of your field trip or as a follow-up activity.  We want to see the excitement and appreciation students gain during a field trip directed toward active efforts on behalf of the Chesapeake Bay.

FIELD EQUIPMENT

The Trust is interested in funding equipment that will be used on an ongoing basis.  Do not ask us to pay for twenty shovels for a one-day planting.  Do not ask for a complete set of water quality testing equipment if you are only going to make one visit to your local stream.  Make sure the equipment you want is appropriate for what you are trying to accomplish.  Do not ask for a deep water secchi disk when your stream is only 2 inches deep.

TREE PLANTING

The Trust will only fund plantings that are within 1,000 feet of a stream or wetland and we limit funding to a maximum of $1,000.00 per site.  The key to successful tree plantings is maintenance.  Who is going to water the trees in the summer?  Ask for a copy of our tree planting policy.

WHAT THE TRUST WILL NOT FUND

In general, the Trust will not fund: refreshments or meals, t-shirts or buttons, video equipment, cash prizes, administrative cost or miscellaneous expenses.  You will find additional guidelines in our grant brochure.  The Trust has made exceptions to its general guidelines when teachers have presented a particularly persuasive argument.  We do not fund projects that have already been completed.
